YCSO Deputies Make Arrests In A Pair Of Stabbings Over The Weekend

Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies were busy with a pair of stabbing cases over the weekend. Deputies were called to a Cottonwood home Friday night after a fight reportedly led to a stabbing. Authorities responded to the home on the 23-hundred block of South Posse Trail at around 9 p.m. Wanda Derby of Cottonwood began fighting with two people at the home, striking a man in the face breaking his glasses and kicked another woman in the leg. A third man tried to stop Derby, restraining her from the back, but she managed to stab him in the arm. Derby was arrested and booked for aggravated assault and other related charges. The man was treated for minor injuries. Then Saturday night, deputies responded to a stabbing in Cordes Lakes. Officials say 42-year-old Carla Curtiss had stabbed her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend and left the scene. However, as deputies were responding, Curtiss called saying she had been assaulted. When deputies arrived, they found Curtiss outside her vehicle and placed her under arrest. The victim was on the porch of the home, bleeding from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a Phoenix area hospital and is in stable condition. The two women apparently had a dispute about Curtiss being at the home and the dispute turned physical with Curtiss producing a knife and stabbing the victim. Curtiss was arrested and booked on attempted first degree murder and other charges.
