West Flagstaff Falls To Cactus Foothills In Opening Game Of The State Little League Tournament

Reid Hamel hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the sixth inning as Cactus Foothills rallied from 5-0 deficit to beat West Flagstaff, 6-5 Monday night in the first round of the Arizona State Little League Baseball Tournament at Mark Grace Field in Flagstaff. After a scoreless first inning, West Flagstaff scored two runs in the second and three runs in the third, capitalizing on Cactus Foothills errors. However, the bats would go quiet for West Flagstaff. In the last three innings, Cactus Foothills would allow only two baserunners and no-hits. They started to chip away at the lead, scoring a run in the third and two runs in the fourth to narrow the West Flagstaff lead to 5-3. Cactus Foothills would score two runs in the fifth inning, including Raja Edelstein’s steal home to tie the game at five. After a quiet West Flagstaff sixth, Cactus Foothills’ Jack Miller picked up his third hit of the night to lead off their sixth inning. Miller would then score the game winning run on Hamel’s double. West Flagstaff goes into the elimination bracket and will take on Prescott Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Mark Grace Field.
