There will be two prescribed burns in Coconino County starting Thursday. The first burn will be on about 16-hundred acres of state trust land east of Mormon Lake about 30 miles southeast of Flagstaff and ten miles south of Interstate-40. Fire managers expect the burn to take two days. Smoke from the burn should not impact I-40 and the Mormon Lake community. Next Wednesday, a 15-hundred acre burn will take place about eight miles north of State Route 64 and Highway 180, which is the Valle-Grand Canyon junction, and 13 miles south of Tusayan. The burn is also on state trust land. This project could take up to four days to burn. Smoke may be visible in the Valle area. Both burns will reduce the risk of wildfires as it takes care of hazardous fuels around infrastructure and nearby properties.
