A fatal accident partially closed Highway 89 north of Flagstaff last night. The accident happened about five miles south of the turnoff to Wuptaki National Monument, at around 6:16 p.m. DPS says a sedan was traveling northbound in the left lane of northbound-89, when it was rear ended by another vehicle. The “at-fault” vehicle then crossed the median and into the southbound lanes of 89, where it rolled a number of times. The victim vehicle was forced off the road to the right, where it rolled several times. The front seat passenger of the victim vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers were transported to Flagstaff Medical Center for treatment. Officials say impairment was a contributing factor in the accident. The names of those involved have not been released, pending next of kin notification.
