Two People Were Killed During A Slew Of Accidents Near Williams Sunday On Interstate-40

Two people were killed during a period of 15-to-20 accidents involving around 40-to-50 vehicles on westbound Interstate-40 near Williams Sunday. DPS says the accidents took place near Devil Dog Road on the interstate, and most were non-injury accidents, including one where a DPS state trooper’s vehicles was struck. The trooper was not injured. DPS says at some point in the collisions, a tractor-trailer slowed for slowing traffic and was hit by a BMW SUV. That vehicle was then rear-ended by another semi-truck. The force of the impact, pushed the SUV underneath the tractor-trailer. Two people inside the SUV died instantly. Authorities say it may be some time before they can identify the victims, pending confirmation from the Coconino County Medical Examiner. The string of accidents caused ADOT to close westbound I-40 for several hours so crews could clear the scene of all the vehicles involved in the accidents.
