Two NAU Football Players Garner Big Sky Player Of The Week Honors

A pair of Lumberjacks won Big Sky Player of the Week honors this week. Freshman Alex McLaughlin had eight tackles, six were solo, while grabbing an interception late in NAU’s 27-10 upset of 13-ranked Weber State Saturday. The Jacks held the Wildcats to just 61 yards rushing in the game. Alex was named the Big Sky’s Defensive Player of the Week. Wide receiver Coleman Owen won the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week after his electric 85-yard punt return for a touchdown. Owen broke multiple tackles on his TD return, which was the first for an NAU player since 2014. Both players are from Arizona. McLaughlin played at Hamilton High School in Chandler, while Owen is one of many alums on the NAU roster from Gilbert’s Higley High School. The Jacks host Portland State for Family Weekend on Saturday.
