The Lightning-Caused Cecil Fire Is Burning West Of State Route 89A And Northwest Of The Switchbacks

A wildfire is burning west of State Route 89A, and to the northwest of the switchbacks in the Coconino National Forest. Forest officials say the Cecil Fire has burned around 40 acres and is burning in open country. The fire started as a lightning strike back on September 18th and fire managers are hoping to manage the fire for forest health. The plan for management of this fire is 21-hundred acres. There are two engines and the Mormon Lake hotshots currently on the fire. Fire officials are also keeping an eye on the lightning-caused Still Fire that’s burning in the Blue Ridge area. The fire has been smoldering since September 14th and is burning in an area that was planned for a prescribed burn.
