The Flat Fire Is Now 100-Percent Contained North Of The San Francisco Peaks

The Flat Fire is now 100-percent contained. The fire burned 156 acres on the north side of the San Francisco Peaks, about four-and-a-half miles west of Highway 89. The Flat Fire burned through mostly pinyon-juniper and grass. A Type Two crew, an engine, a watertanker, a dozer and a medic team worked all weekend to get the fire out. The Flat Fire was started by a private citizen burning grass trimmings in a burn pit. The fire quickly got out of control due to wind conditions at the time. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office charged the man with reckless burning and violation of the county’s fire ban. No homes or structures were lost in the fire.
