The Arizona Interscholastic Association is putting the call out for officials and referees. Northern Arizona area commissioner Mike Gillespie says over the past 20 years, both the Flagstaff and Prescott areas have seen a decline of high school officials by 50-percent. Part of the problem is abuse of the officials by parents and spectators at some games. A crackdown of verbal abuse of referees and officials is expected to be in place for fall sports.  The crackdown would carry with it stiffer penalties for those who attack officials, verbally and or physically. Officials get paid per game and receive mileage money if they are called on to travel. These jobs are perfect for college-aged people and for those who just want to be back on the field or court.
