NAU Police has received a report that someone is portraying themselves as an NAUPD employee and had spoofed their non-emergency number, 928-523-3611. The subject indicated they had arrested a family member and where asking for money to be transferred via Zelle or Venmo in order to handle the matter in house rather than the court system. NAUPD will never ask you to transfer money electronically to them. If you get a call from someone claiming to be an NAUPD employee, or any law enforcement agency, ask for the caller’s name and badge number and you can call NAUPD or said law enforcement agency to confirm employment. Never transfer any money in any form related to a similar request.
