An NBA superstar is behind a Netflix movie about basketball on the Navajo Nation. The “Hollywood Reporter” says LeBron James is going to produce the movie “Rez Ball” based on a book written by Michael Powell called “Canyon Dreams.” The movie follows the Chuska Warriors from Chuska High School in New Mexico, who band together to try and win a state championship after losing their star player. Production will take place on location in New Mexico, including on the Navajo Nation. Director Sydney Freeland told the “Hollywood Reporter,” “basketball on the Rez is like high school football in West Texas.” He adds, “it has a fanatical following few sports can rival.” There’s no word when the movie is set to hit Netflix.
