Prescott Valley PD Warn Of The “Grandparent Scam” Using AI To Trick People Into Sending Money To Scammers

The Prescott Valley Police Department is warning the public about a new scam called the “Grandparent Scam.” Police had several people come forward in the past week, who had fallen victim to the scam, but with a twist. With the emergence of AI technology, savvy scammers have been able to create realistic sound bites of possible loved ones. Victims receive a call from an alleged family member, asking urgently for money. Some scams even have had their “attorney” get on the phone. Police are asking people to think before sending any money. Try to contact the alleged family member to determine if they are in trouble. If anyone has any questions about the latest scam, contact the Prescott Valley Police Department at (928) 772-9261, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
