Prescott Man To Be Charged With Attempted Homicide After A Fiery Confrontation With YCSO Deputies Early Friday Morning

A Prescott man has been charged with attempted homicide after a fiery confrontation with Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies early Friday morning. Deputies responded to a report that 48-year-old James Haynes had violated a protection order, by crashing his vehicle through two gates and then into a camper trailer occupied by the woman who took the order out on him. After stopping, Haynes then lit his vehicle on fire and crawled under the trailer attempting to get into it through the floor. The trailer, and nearby residence, quickly caught on fire. Everyone inside the trailer and the residence got out and went to a nearby home, with the exception of Haynes. A DPS helicopter was called in to help find Haynes. Multiple structures on and near the property became fully engulfed in flames. Propane tanks and ammunition began to rapidly explode as well. Deputies searched the immediate area and he was eventually taken into custody. Haynes told deputies he had taken 25 Vicodin and led deputies to what appeared to be a suicide note in his pocket. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he remains. He will be booked into the Yavapai County Jail on charges of attempted homicide, arson of an occupied structure, violation of a court order and aggravated harassment.
