Pile Burns in Prescott Basin Area Planned for February

Fire managers in the Bradshaw Ranger District of the Prescott National Forest plan to carry out pile burns throughout February in the Prescott Basin area. The goal is to take advantage of next month’s precipitation to reduce hazardous fuels following thinning and fuelwood removal. Ignitions will begin as early as February 1st, weather permitting. On burn days, fire managers expect smoke impacts to be light and visible from multiple locations including Prescott, Chino Valley, and surrounding areas. Pile burning is a type of prescribed fire where firefighters pile and burn forest debris to reduce the risk of a catastrophic wildfire.
