The NAU women’s basketball team is one win away from the NCAA Tournament as the Lumberjacks knocked off the Montana Grizzlies this afternoon in the Big Sky Tournament semifinals, 74-67. NAU got out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter and extended their lead to nine at halftime, 38-29. Sophie Glancey had her second-straight double-double to lead the Jacks with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Grace Beasley added 18 points and seven rebounds in the win. The Jacks will now take on the top-seeded Eastern Washington Eagles for the tournament title. Head coach Loree Payne says the team is excited to play the Eagles for a third time this season. She says, “I feel it’s going to be a battle tomorrow, obviously we split with Eastern and it’s the battle of 1-2, but I’m excited to see the team and I feel we’ve gotten our rhythum a little bit back and it should be a very fun and exciting game.” NAU beat the Eagles in Flagstaff 89-81 in overtime and lost them in Cheney, 67-42. NAU has only been to the Big Dance once in women’s basketball, that was in 2006 when they were the 14-seed and lost to third-seeded Baylor in the first round 74-56. Wednesday’s title game will take place at 2 p.m. We will have the game starting at 1:55 p.m. on The Legend 93.5/AM 930 and you can watch the game on ESPN U.
