The NAU women’s basketball team will play in the Big Sky Tournament semifinals Tuesday afternoon after their, 81-63, opening round win over Sacramento State Sunday. The second-seeded Lumberjacks struggled in the first half, trailing the eight-seeded Hornets at halftime 28-26. NAU head coach Loree Payne wanted to come out in the second half they wanted to push the tempo more saying, “it was their second game in two days, but we needed to get stops though because our transition is best when we get stops.” She added, “once we were able to settle in and get some stops, and up in rebounding, I think that put us at an advantage.” Boise-native sophomore Sophie Glancey caught fire, scoring 24 of her 30 points in the second half to lead NAU to the win. Glancey led the Jacks with 30 points and 11 rebounds and Lea Beattie scored 15 and Olivia Moran chipped in with 13. The Jacks shot 33-percent for the first half and 60-percent in the second to lead them to the win. NAU will play the winner of third-seeded Montana and sixth-seeded Idaho Tuesday. Those two teams play Monday afternoon.
