Both the NAU men’s and women’s basketball teams struggled against Idaho State in their Big Sky openers Thursday night. The women struggled from three-point range early and often shooting just 3-of-24 for just 13-percent. However, they outscored the Bengals by eight in the second half but it wasn’t enough as they fall 69-64. Regan Schenck led the Jacks with 15 points and former Bengal Montana Oltrogge along with Fatoumata Jaiteh each added 13 points in the loss. The Lumberjacks will host Weber State Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Skydome. The NAU men trailed 44-21 at halftime and couldn’t make up the difference and Idaho State beat NAU 79-53 in Pocatello. Carson Towt led NAU with 15 points and Xavier Fuller added 11 and Jalen Cone had 10 in the loss. Idaho State shot 60-percent from three-point range in the first half, making 9-15 shots and finished shooting 12-of-24 for 50-percent. NAU was 3-of-13 from three for 23-percent, 40-percent from the field. Idaho State was ranked the worst rebounding team in the conference coming into the game and NAU was outrebounded 40-20. NAU will travel to Ogden, Utah to try and shake off Thursday’s loss Saturday against the Wildcats. Tip time is at 2 p.m. with the pregame show starting at 1:30 on The Legend 93.5/Am 930.
