NAU Drops Gane One Of The Inaugural Big Sky/Summit League Challenge Wednesday

The NAU men’s and women’s basketball teams each lost in game one of the inaugural Big Sky/Summit League Challenge played Wednesday. The women took on the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State in the Skydome. NAU had a 13 point lead in the fourth quarter until the Jackrabbits went on a 15-2 run to send the game into overtime. The game went to double overtime before South Dakota State pulled away, outscoring NAU 18-10 to win 110-102. The loss snaps NAU’s five game losing streak. Grace Beasley led the Jacks with 23 points and nine rebounds and Nyah Moran added 20 points as six Jacks scored in double figures. NAU will head to Fargo, North Dakota Saturday to take on the Bison of North Dakota State. The men were on the road in Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Omaha Mavericks. The Lumberjacks rallied from a 20-0 run in the first half by Omaha to trail 31-30 at halftime. However, the Mavericks outscored NAU 50-25 in the second half to beat the Jacks, 81-55. Oakland Fort led the Jacks with 11 points, all scored in the first half. Carson Basham added ten points and six rebounds in the loss. NAU will return to Flagstaff to take on North Dakota in game two of the Big Sky/Summit League Challenge. Tip time is at 1 p.m.
