NAU Beats Montana In The Big Sky Semis 83-71, To Advance To Wednesday’s Title Game

The ninth-seeded NAU Lumberjacks are one-win away from going to the NCAA Tournament after their 83-71 semifinal win over the Montana Grizzlies in the Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament in Boise, Idaho. Standing in their way are the second-seeded Montana State Bobcats, who needed double-overtime to beat Weber State, 60-58. The Lumberjacks shot 50-percent from the field in the game, 56-percent in the second half in the win. Junior guard Jalen Cone led the Jacks with 28 points, hitting six three-pointers, five of which coming in the first half. Xavier Fuller and Carson Towt each added 14 points in the win. The NAU men join the NAU women’s team in the title game, which is the first time that has happened since 2007. With the win, NAU is 12-and-22 on the season. With a win Wednesday, the Jacks would have the worst record of a team in the history in the NCAA Tournament, with a 13-and-22 mark. The Jacks play for the title against Montana State at 9:30 p.m., with the pregame show at 9 p.m. on The Legend 93.5/AM 930 and you can watch it on ESPN 2.
