The NAU Lumberjacks played stellar defense as they beat the Idaho State Bengals on the road Saturday 24-10. NAU led 17-7 at halftime, scoring two touchdowns on the second quarter. Wide receiver Elijah Taylor scored on a six-yard touchdown run with 7:47 to go in the first half, then quarterback R.J. Martinez scored on a one-yard run with 11-seconds remaining until halftime. NAU would score again, this time tight end Isaiah Gerena caught a one-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter en route to the win. NAU had 299 yards of total offense, 172 yards from Martinez, who was 23-37 with a touchdown and an interception. The Bengals gained nearly 400 yards of total offense, but it was the Jacks ability to keep the Bengals out of the end zone, was a big reason for the win. NAU had six sacks and 16 tackles for loss in the win. The Jacks will now have a week off to rest up and get extra time to prepare for the Montana State Bobcats, who will come to Flagstaff for homecoming on Saturday, November 5th.
