The ninth-seeded NAU Lumberjacks beat the tenth-seeded Idaho Vandals,87-76, in the first round of the Big Sky Men’s Basketball Tournament in Boise, Idaho. Jalen Cone led the Jacks with 25 points and Carson Towt had a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds in the win. Senior Nik Mains added 18 points and freshman guard Oakland Fort scored 13 points, which is a career-high against Division One schools. His career high is 15, which he scored earlier this year against Benedictine Mesa, an NAIA school. The Jacks will now play top-seeded Eastern Washington Sunday in the next round. In looking ahead to Sunday’s game with Eastern Washington, NAU head coach Shane Burcar said after the game “we’ve had some good games with them, and they handled us pretty well up there, but they have some really terrific players and a coaching staff and we will have to be on our “A” game to have some success. The Eagles swept NAU this season, but the Jacks dropped a close game in the Skydome 77-74. Tip time is at 5:30 p.m. You can listen to the game on The Legend 93.5/AM 930 in Flagstaff and Fun Oldies AM 1450 in Prescott starting at 5 p.m.
