The NAU Lumberjacks went toe-to-toe with the eighth-ranked Sacramento State Hornets on the road and came up just short, falling 31-30. The Jacks had the ball and drove down to inside the 20 yard line, converting on three fourth downs on the drive. Then on third down, NAU quarterback Adam Damante was intercepted in the end zone with 1:36 to play. After a safety, NAU had one final play with two-seconds to play but it was squashed as the Hornets get the win. Damante was 23-of-33 for 196 yards with a touchdown and the interception late in the game. The running game had its best outing of the season. Devon Starling rushed for 117 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns to lead NAU on the ground. Chase Belcher also scored a touchdown and rushed for 72 yards on nine carries. NAU had 450 yards of total offense, while Sac State had 418 yards of offense. The Lumberjacks will be back on the road this week as they head to Ogden, Utah to take on the Weber State Wildcats.
