NAU Announces Pittsburg State Head Coach Brian Wright As Its New Head Football Coach

Northern Arizona University has announced that Pittsburg State head football coach Brian Wright will become its 31st head football coach. Wright replaces Chris Ball, whose contract was not renewed after five seasons at the helm of the Lumberjacks. Wright leaves Pittsburg State after four seasons and a trip into the Division Two playoffs. He was 33-8 during his time at Pittsburg State with back-to-back Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships and led the Gorillas to an 11-2 mark this past season. The Gorillas season came to an end after a loss to second-seeded Grand Valley State in the Division Two playoffs last week. He is an Ohio-native and spent time coaching at Youngstown State, Florida Atlantic, Toledo and one season at Montana State, before taking over as head coach at Pittsburg State. NAU Athletic Director Mike Marlow says “Brian Wright was a targeted candidate who quickly became our top choice as NAU’s head football coach. His track record of success as both a head coach and offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach is impressive, and we are eager for his experience to translate to success at NAU.” Wright said in a statement, “my family and I are extremely excited to join the Northern Arizona football family and Lumberjack community. We can’t wait to begin connecting with the team and starting the process towards building a proud championship football program at NAU.” NAU will introduce Wright at a press conference Thursday.
