A man, whose body was found in 2020, has been identified. Coconino County Sheriff’s deputies found a body in a shallow grave near the Lava Caves off Highway 180 north of Flagstaff in October of 2020. Thanks to DNA testing, the man was identified as 56-year-old David Clark Wilkinson, who was known to frequent the Phoenix and Prescott areas in 2019 and 2020. DNA also showed that Wilkinson died as a victim of homicide. It is believed that Wilkinson was camping in the Prescott and Coconino national forests and may have approached other campers in those areas. He was a white male, about five-foot-11 inches tall and weighed 165 pounds with graying hair, a graying beard and wore glasses in the summer of 2020. He may have been traveling with one or two dogs and was likely operating a white 1997 Toyota Paseo. If anyone has information about Wilkinson, or how he died, contact the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office at (928) 774-4523 or contact Silent Witness at (928) 774-6111.
