Flagstaff’s Recycling Services Paused After The Unexpected Closure To A Recycling Facility

The City of Flagstaff is frantically searching for a new recycling disposal facility after the Materials Recovery Facility at 1800 East Butler Avenue closed down. The MRF was under contract with the city to process the city’s recyclables. Due to the closure, the city decided to pause the collection of residential recycling Thursday and Friday while alternative solutions are sought. Residents who have recycle collection on Thursday and Fridays are being asked to not put the recycle bins on the curb. All recyclables collected since Tuesday have been taken to the Cinder Lake Landfill for disposal. The city is working diligently with all regional partners to identify solutions to resume recycling service as soon as possible. An update will be provided prior to the week of May 1st to inform residents of next steps related to residential recycling and the status of the MRF.
