Flagstaff Police Warn Of A Phone Scam Where Callers Claim To Be Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputies Asking For Payment

Flagstaff Police are warning of a recent phone scam where citizens are being contacted by people claiming to be deputies with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. They are telling potential victims that they have warrants and try to collect money via money transfer apps such as cashapp, zelle, etc. They are going as far as having a recorded line claiming to be from the “warrant division” and having spoofed phone numbers advising “CCSO.” A reminder that law enforcement will never contact anyone by phone demanding payment through cash apps or gift cards. Authorities say to remain vigilant and verify information.
