Flagstaff Police have identified the man they arrested in connection of two incidents of gunfire Wednesday morning, one being in Bushmaster Park. Officials say they received a report of shots fired at around 9:24 a.m. in the area of Brannen Circle and Lone Tree. Witnesses say the suspect and another man came out of a wooded area and started firing several rounds in the air. They fled down the urban trail and couldn’t be found. Then at around 11:19 a.m., police were called to the Bushmaster Park area. Several witnesses told police a Native American man fired his gun at several people. He also demanded a cigarette from a group and then fired rounds into the ground. Officers located the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Alan French, in the area of Fourth Street and Sixth Avenue where he was taken into custody without incident. He was booked on several counts of disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault and robbery. He is currently being held in the Coconino County Detention Facility.

This isn’t the first time French has been arrested for something like this. In 2018, French and another man, fired gunshots at Bushmaster Park at the skate park. This came after a fight between the two men and two others. He was arrested and pleaded guilty on assault and two other charges. He served over two years in prison in that case. French is currently on trial in another case for disorderly conduct and trespassing charges. However, back in 2014, French pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated domestic violence and in 2011, pleaded guilty on an aggravated assault resulting in disfigurement charge. French also spent time in jail in those cases as well.
