One streak ended and two others continued as Flagstaff swept Coconino in boys and girls basketball Tuesday night at Flagstaff High School. In the varsity girls game, ten Eagles scored, led by Carter Edison’s ten points as Flagstaff beat Coconino 69-28 to win their 17th straight against the Panthers and 83rd straight Grand Canyon Region game. Jaydean Dugi and Morningrain Honani each added nine points in the win. Aubrey Laughter led the Panthers with nine points in defeat. In the boys’ game, it was a back and forth first half, until Flagstaff pulled away with a big third quarter en route to a 58-49 win over Coconino, snapping the Panthers nine-game winning streak in the rivalry. Connor O’brien-Piubeni led the Eagles with 19 points, 14 in the second half in the win. Camden Hagerman added ten points for the Eagles, who improve to 5-0 in the region. Coconino falls to 2-3 in the region and will host Lee Williams Friday night.
