Flagstaff Falls To Winslow On Homecoming 14-13 Friday

Flagstaff High School celebrated its 100th year of football at the school Friday night as they took on the first team they ever played, the Winslow Bulldogs. In 1923, the game ended in a six-all tie. Friday, it was headed in that direction as the Eagles led 7-6 and halftime, after a 24-yard pass from Chase Brown to Chase Carlson with 2:24 in the half. In the third quarter, the Bulldogs scored on the second touchdown run of the game by Bulldogs quarterback Ty Despain. The Bulldogs converted the two-point conversion to make it 14-6. The Eagles would cut the Bulldog lead to one after a one-yard run by Jaydon Wetzel to make it 14-13, but the Eagles would miss the extra point. Winslow went to the ground and was able to eat up a lot of clock in the fourth quarter. The Eagles were unable to mount another drive as Winslow stuns the Eagles on homecoming and improved its winning streak over the Eagles to three in a row. Despain finished with 80 yards rushing, on top of the two scores and sophomore Bryce Williams had 100 yards rushing on 25 carries in the win. The Eagles will regroup and hit the road for the first time this year, and they travel to Maricopa to take on the Golden Hawks of Desert Sunrise. We will have the game on The Legend 93.5/AM 930 and simulcast it on KAFF Sports Network on NFHSNewwork.com starting at 6:30 p.m.
