Flagstaff Falls To Mesquite In A Defensive Battle In The 4A Semifinals

It was a defensive battle in the 4A semifinals, but it was the second-seeded Mesquite Wildcats that came away with a 32-26 win over the third-seed Flagstaff Eagles Tuesday night in Gilbert. The Wildcats held Flagstaff to just eight points at halftime, all scored by Mackenzie Mason. The Wildcats shut down Flagstaff’s shooters with strong perimeter defense though most of the game. Senior Morning Honani didn’t get her first points until the third quarter and finished with seven points. Jazmine Dugi led Flagstaff with nine points. The Eagles trailed 23-11 in the second half, but couldn’t rally to get the win. Mesquite will take on top-seed Salpointe Catholic for the 4A state title Thursday.
