The Flagstaff Eagles wanted to get the week one loss to Greenway out of their mouth and get their first win of the season Friday against Somerset Academy-Losse from North Las Vegas. However, it was an uphill battle right from the opening kickoff as they fell to Lions in the Skydome, 47-6. The Eagles were to receive the opening kick, but the squib kick took a Lions bounce and was recovered by Somerset Academy. Two plays later running back Malachai Johnson scored from ten yards out. Johnson would finish with 180 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown. The Lions rushed for 464 yards in the game. The Eagles couldn’t get going, however quarterback Chase Brown connected with Joe Beitler for a 60 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to try and keep pace. However, the Lions would use long drives and a pounding ground attack to get the win. Running back Jaden Wetzel had 84 yards rushing on 12 carries and the Eagles finished with 164 yards of total offense. Flagstaff will regroup and get ready to host the Winslow Bulldogs in the Skydome next Friday night.
