This coming fall girls flag football will begin a new season at high schools around the state. One of the schools that will competing in the sport beginning this year will be Flagstaff High School. The Eagles have hired a familiar coach to lead the program. Flagstaff girls varsity basketball coach Tyrone Johnson was named the program’s first coach Friday. Flagstaff High School athletic director Jeannine Brandel says “we are so excited to bring him on board as he was an amazing quarterback at Flagstaff High School and he has a proven track record as a coach.” Johnson has built an elite basketball program at Flagstaff High School, ending last season capturing the 4A state championship. The Eagles will play in the 5A Northwest region and begin the season August 29th in Tempe against the Marcos de Niza Padres.
