Employees Laid Off From Flagstaff Veterans Home, Department Of Veterans’ Services Not Saying Why Specifically

Nearly six months after the new Arizona State Veterans Home in Flagstaff announced they were accepting applications for admission, the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services has laid off staff at the home. The news was given to staffers Friday in a letter. KAFF News reached out to the department Monday. They responded by saying, “The Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services made the difficult decision to lay off staff that worked at the Arizona State Veteran Home in Flagstaff effective Friday, January 26th.” They added, “due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, the Flagstaff Home has not been able to open for residents yet and because of that, we can no longer maintain current staffing levels.” However, a former employees who was laid off, tells KAFF News there was a major flood in the building from a sprinkler system failure that caused damage in December of 2022, along with other issues with the building. When asked about the circumstances they mentioned, officials wouldn’t elaborate past the initial statement. There’s no word on when the building would be ready to open and be fully staffed.
