COVID-19 Has Reached Record Levels In Coconino County

COVID-19 has reached record levels in Coconino County. County health officials say last week the county reported 519 cases of the virus, which is the highest to date. The biggest rise in cases took place in the 86001 zip code, which is west Flagstaff. Currently the county is seeing 361.7 cases per 100-thousand people, up from 211.9 last week, and the percent positive is 11.2-percent, both are in the red, or substantial area. Within Flagstaff Unified School District schools, the cases per 100-thousand is 351.5 and the percent positive increased from 5.4-percent to 9.1-percent. Both benchmarks are in the red, or substantial. COVID-like illness rose to 3.8-percent, which remains in the green or minimal. All three benchmarks must be at least in yellow, or moderate for two straight weeks for in-person classes, or winter sports, to take place. The highest case incidents were in the 20-to-44 age group. At Flagstaff Medical Center, as of Friday morning, there were 214 patients total with 27 COVID-positive patients and 27 cases pending results. There are 41 total patients currently in ICU.
