Congressman Eli Crane Has Introduced The Bipartisan, “Subterranean Border Defense Act”

Arizona Congressman Eli Crane, along with California Democratic Congressman Lou Correa, has introduced a bill to address the growing threat of illicit cross-border tunneling operations. The “Subterranean Border Defense Act” is said to help law enforcement deal with underground tunnels that go across the border from Mexico to the United States. Law enforcement officials have discovered over 140 tunnels breaching the U.S. border since 1990 and hope the Act will improve national security. “As terrorists, cartels, and smugglers develop new ways to infiltrate our country, the U.S. must stay on the cutting edge of security technology to protect our citizens and our infrastructure,” Crane said. “I’m proud to be able to champion one more deterrent on our southern border that will play a crucial role in keeping Arizonans safe.” Crane’s legislation would require U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to report to Congress on the issue every year.
