Coconino’s Michael Chukwujgha Signs With Cal State East Bay To Play Basketball

Coconino head coach Cooper Elliott and Michael Chukwigha

Coconino senior Michael Chukwujgha is days away from graduating from high school, and on Tuesday he announced where he will be playing college basketball. “Big Mike” announced he is headed to Hayward, California to play for the Pioneers of Call State East Bay, which is a Division Two program. He will join former Peoria High School guard Andrew Camacho on the squad. Chukwujgha, who is from Nigeria, says he will always remember the friends he made at Coconino and the rivalry games with Flagstaff, in all sports, saying “I’ve never seen a rivalry like this in my country.” Head coach Cooper Elliott will always remember “Big Mike” saying, “he made a lasting impact on our program and he was a big influence in a positive direction for our younger guys.” He adds, “we wouldn’t have had this amount of success if he wasn’t here.” Chukwujgha led the Panthers last season in scoring and rebounds, averaging 13 points and just over 11 rebounds a game.
