Coconino National Forest Fire Managers Burning Slash Piles This Week Around Flagstaff

Fire managers on the Coconino National Forest are burning slash piles in different areas this week. The Horse Park pile burn is around 2,000-acres of slash piles just north of Munds Park. Crews are burning piles today through Friday in that area. Crews will burn a small pile at the Mormon Lake Work Center, about two miles south of Flagstaff Thursday. Crews will also burn about ten acres of hand piles at the Flagstaff Hotshot Ranch site about seven miles northwest of Flagstaff Friday. Smoke may impact areas of Lake Mary Road, Mountainaire, Kachina Village, Highway 180 and Interstate 17 around the pile burns, but smoke is expected to be lights. Smoke could settle in the Ponderosa Trails neighborhood overnight. The City of Flagstaff also intends to burn piles at Picture Canyon Thursday.
