Coconino County And Coconino National Forest To Enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions On Friday

The City of Flagstaff, Coconino County, Coconino National Forest, and Kaibab National Forest will enter Stage 2 fire restrictions come 8 a.m. Friday, June 21st. These restrictions are in response to the threat of unwanted wildfires increasing due to hot, dry and windy weather conditions. Even with the possibility of precipitation this weekend, fire danger is still very high. Fire restrictions are implemented to help prevent human-caused fires and to limit the exposure of visitors during periods of potentially dangerous fire conditions. The following are some prohibited activities during Stage 2 restrictions:

– Igniting, building, maintaining, or using a fire
– Smoking outside, with the exemption of smoking within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site
– Operating a generator, chainsaw or other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine
– Use of explosive targets, tracer rounds, or incendiary ammunition
– Motorized vehicles are prohibited on specific forest roads near the San Francisco Peaks area, Pumphouse Wash area, and Marshall Lake area

For more information on fire restrictions and exceptions, head to your local forest service website.
