Coconino Beats Prescott 42-37 To Keep Its Playoff Hopes Alive

The Prescott Badgers started the game with a 96-yard opening kickoff return for a touchdown by Josiah Peoples, but the Coconino Panthers were able to regroup to beat Prescott 42-37 in a wild game at Cromer Stadium. Senior running back Bridger French had 259 yards rushing on 25 carries and three touchdowns. Coconino had 500 yards of total offense in the win to finish the season unbeaten at home in 2023. Kicker Jose Miguel Villaneuva kicked his 43rd extra point of the season, setting a new school record and Asher Young had a punt-block return for a touchdown for Coconino. Prescott senior quarterback Jaxon Rice was 14-of-16 for 244 yards and a touchdown in the loss. With a win next week over Flagstaff, Coconino will advance into the 4A state playoffs. Prescott will finish their season next week against Mingus.
