Coconino Beats Flagstaff 56-14 To Win Seventh Straight Football City Championship

The Flagstaff Eagles scored a touchdown on each of their first two drives, but that was it as Coconino won its seventh straight Flagstaff City Championship with a 56-14 win in the Skydome Friday night. Senior running back Bridger French played in his final regular season game at Coconino by rushing for 132 yards on 14 carries and scored four touchdowns and was Coconino’s game MVP. He also set a new Coconino record for most touchdowns in a season with 25, breaking the record of 22 held by Zach Bennett in 2019. Junior quarterback Colton Buckingham was 10-of-15 for 207 yards with three touchdowns, two of which went to junior wide receiver Noble Young-Blackgoat who led the Panthers in receiving with six caches for 153 yards. For Flagstaff, junior running back Jadon Wetzel had 64 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. He also had six catches for 69 yards. Sophomore quarterback Chase Brown was 14-of-27 for 158 yards in defeat. Coconino had 432 yards in total offense to the Eagles’ 222 yards. Senior linebacker and running back Ben Wolter was named Flagstaff’s MVP of the game. Flagstaff finishes its season with a record of 2-8. The Panthers are 7-3 and are the 13-seed in the 4A playoffs. They will take on fourth-seeded Arcadia in Scottsdale Thursday night.
