Busy Week Of Burning On The Coconino National Forest And Surrounding Areas This Week

There will be a couple of prescribed burns in the Coconino National Forest this week. According to ADEQ, 900 acres will be burned on Camp Navajo Monday on a project called the Mickie Tank Units. Work will also begin near the Happy Jack Ranger Station on the Coconino National Forest Monday. Up to 12-hundred acres is set to burn in that area Monday. The burn is expected to last four-to-five days and treat six-thousand acres. Smoke will impact Camp Verde and other Verde Valley communities. Later this week a five day burn will treat 25-hundred acres about two-and-a-half miles northwest of Lower Lake Mary. Smoke will be noticeable from Flagstaff and surrounding areas, but smoke will head southwest to the Verde Valley area. Work on that project will be done intermittently between today and Friday. A three-acre burn will take place either Tuesday or Wednesday along Fort Valley Road, one mile west of base camp at Snowbowl as part of an NAU project to study prescribed fires.
