A Coconino County Sheriff’s K-9 deputy conducted a traffic stop Monday and seized a large amount of fentanyl pills. The deputy pulled the vehicle over on southbound Interstate-17 at around 6:17 p.m. for a traffic violation. After talking to the driver and a passenger, the deputy became suspicious. He deployed his K-9 to do a sniff around the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the passenger side door area of the vehicle. After the alert, the driver and passenger were detained while a search was done. The search resulted in the discovery of an estimated 40-thousand pills. Twenty-one year old Adrian Pena and 21-year-old Edgar Soto were arrested and booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on felony charges including transportation of narcotic drugs and possession of narcotic drugs for sale. The matter remains under investigation.
