The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy involved shooting in Doney Park early Thursday morning. Deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at 3:10 a.m. on Hidden Hills Road. The person who called 911 said that an unknown person had broken into their home and had the person at gunpoint. The subject then jumped out of the window and fled the area. When deputies arrived they made sure the victim was okay and started searching for the suspect. At 3:24 a.m. the suspect was found just to the west of the crime scene. A CCSO sergeant gave verbal commands to the suspect, in which he initially complied with them. When the sergeant went to take the suspect into custody, the person attacked him and was able to get the sergeant into a chokehold. Fearing for his life, the sergeant fired at the suspect, who was actively attacking him, had grabbed his gun, and was on the sergeant’s back. The suspect was shot once and was taken into custody a short time later. The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Eric Adamson from Peoria. Paramedics arrived and treated Adamson on the scene and then took him to Flagstaff Medical Center for further treatment. The sergeant was evaluated by medics and was cleared with minor injuries. When Adamson is released from FMC he will be booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on several felony charges. The incident remains under investigation.
