A man was shot and killed in Kaibeto Thursday morning after an altercation with a Navajo Police officer. Authorities say at 4:30 a.m., police responded to a domestic disturbance call regarding an intoxicated man who was disturbing a residence and refusing to leave. When officers arrived at the residence, they couldn’t find the man. After the officers left, NPD received another call stating the same subject was attempting to force his way into the residence. When officers returned, they made contact with the man who was being combative. During this encounter, an officer deployed their taser. The man then forcefully took the taser and attempted to use it on the officer. The officer was able to reach for their firearm and used it to shoot the man. NPD says the officer began rendering aid and before emergency personnel arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident has been referred to the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and the FBI for further investigation.
