A man was found dead Thursday on the Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon. National Park Service officials say they were alerted to a hiker found unresponsive about a mile-and-a-half north of Havasupai Gardens. A rescuer immediately responded on foot. Upon arriving, the rescuer and park rangers found the man and pronounced him dead. The victim has been identified as 65-year-old James Handschy of Oracle, Arizona. He was attempting to hike from the South Rim to the river and back. NPS and the Coconino County Medical Examiner is conducting an investigation into the incident.
