A Flagstaff man was arrested Sunday night for accidentally shooting himself, when he shouldn’t have had the gun in the first place. Flagstaff Police responded to a call at around 8:47 p.m. at South San Francisco Street and East Dupont Avenue for a report of a pedestrian who had shot at a vehicle. Officers secured the area and contacted the driver of the vehicle. The driver told officers he and the pedestrian were in an argument until he left and then came back to continuing talking to the pedestrian. The driver says when he approached the pedestrian he heard what appeared to be a gunshot and decided to leave and call police. Officers caught up to the pedestrian, identified as 40-year-old Ernest Andrew Rivera, who was being treated at Flagstaff Medical Center for a gunshot wound. Investigators determined Rivera’s wound was self-inflicted on accident. After he was released, Rivera was arrested and booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on charges of prohibited firearms possession, discharging a weapon in city limits and disorderly conduct with a weapon.
